Explosive reactive armour

Overview
Explosive reactive armour (ERA) usually consists of a three part assembly of high explosive sandwiched between two plates of steel. As a shaped charge jet penetrates the outer steel plate, the high explosive detonates and propels the two steel plates apart. The interaction of the flying plates and the shaped charge jet results in jet disruption and consequently a reduction in jet lethality
